Two-Channel Quadrature Mirror Filter Bank Design using FIR Polyphase Component

This paper presents an efficient method for the design of two-channel quadrature mirror filter (QMF) bank by polyphase representation of low-pass prototype filter and power optimization method for minimization of an objective function. The objective function is formulated as linear combination of pass-band error and stop-band residual energy of the low-pass analysis filter of the filter bank. Our simulation results show that the use of polyphase components in the design of low-pass prototype filter reduces the computational complexity and the number of iterations. Two design examples are included to show the validity of the proposed method and its superiority over existing methods.
